Behavioral Health Intern
Behavioral Health (BH) services make up ~60% of total services at NYC Health + Hospitals (H+H), with patients experiencing mental illness and substance use disorders being the highest users of care. To improve outcomes, expanding capacity to address these needs across the system is essential. The BH Provider Staffing Intern will support the Associate Director of Mental Health Services in programmatic operation of the new BH Provider Staffing portal, which is designed to enhance the accuracy, consistency, and accessibility of vacancy and staffing information, directly supporting recruitment, workforce planning, and organizational reporting efforts. The intern will assist with documentation validation, to ensure the portal’s effectiveness and sustainability.
Duties and Responsibilities: Data Management & Quality Assurance
Document and validate staffing and vacancy data from multiple BH programs.
Support the development of data dashboards and reports for the portal superusers
Desired Skills: Portal Operations
Maintain user guides, FAQs, and process documentation.
Provide feedback on system functionality and help identify opportunities for improvement.
Process Improvement & Coordination
Engage in regular 1:1 meeting with supervisor to discuss task progress, challenges, and barriers Support standardization of definitions and data entry protocols across programs.
Assist in developing tracking tools for portal for staffing reports
Other duties as assigned by supervisor and OBH leadership
Reporting & Communication; Participate in project team meetings, taking notes and following up on assigned tasks.
Preferred School Major or skillset preferred
Current enrollment in a graduate program in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Data Analytics, Social Work, or a related field.
Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Interest in behavioral health systems, workforce development, or healthcare operations.
Knowledge of fundamentals of hospital organization, administration and standards, regulations and laws applicable to hospital operations
