(#odD2yfwa) Summer Intern, Tolling Technology & Data Analytics
About the Internship
The Tolling Technology and Data Analytics team (TaDA), situated within the Tunnels, Bridges and Terminals Department's (TB&T) Regional E-ZPass unit, leads initiatives related to data governance and analytics, cybersecurity, and technological modernization for Port Authority tolling technology and information systems. Tolling is a major revenue generator for the Port Authority, so it is essential that the Agency's tolling data systems are reliable, consistent, and accurate. This role would be a great fit for someone interested in improving legacy systems and processes and creatively leveraging data and technology to meet operational needs. This intern will develop hands-on experience with large transactional databases, analytics and visualization, documenting datasets and workflows, process automation, and applying all of the above to real-world tolling challenges using tools like Oracle SQL, Python, the Microsoft Power Platform, and more.
Responsibilities
- Develop SQL and/or Python scripts and procedures to reconcile information between distinct and/or partially integrated data sources, identify discrepancies, and notify relevant parties of any anomalies that should be addressed.
- Using available datasets and reports, assess database compliance with E-ZPass business rules to ensure that database procedures are functioning as intended and data integrity is maintained. Malfunctioning rules can have significant adverse operational and financial impacts, so it is essential that they function correctly.
- Document key datasets, their structures, and processes that use them.
- Build PowerBI dashboards to monitor KPIs and other metrics for gauging E-ZPass systems' health.
- Engage with internal stakeholders on data and technology pain points and develop solutions for addressing these needs.
- Research and evaluate modern data engineering and governance tools and make recommendations for their potential deployment in the context of current tolling technology systems.
- Support development of long-term departmental data strategy.
