Position Overview:
The NYC Department of Correction (DOC) is seeking a highly skilled Microsoft Power Platform Developer to support the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical applications. This role will focus on building secure, scalable solutions using PowerApps, Power Automate, Dataverse, and SharePoint/SQL integrations to modernize internal workflows, operational reporting, and compliance tracking systems.
This is a hands-on, on-site role supporting secure correctional environments, requiring close coordination with DOC IT, operations staff, and executive stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deploy canvas and model-driven PowerApps applications
- Build and maintain Power Automate workflows to streamline business processes
- Integrate Power Platform solutions with:
- SQL Server / Azure SQL
- SharePoint Online / On-Prem
- REST APIs and legacy DOC systems (e.g., IIS/JMS integrations where applicable)
- Develop and manage Dataverse data models, ensuring data integrity and performance
- Implement role-based access controls (RBAC) and ensure compliance with NYC Cyber Command security requirements
- Perform application lifecycle management (ALM) including versioning, testing, and deployment
- Troubleshoot and optimize application performance in a high-security environment
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate operational needs into technical solutions
- Produce technical documentation, SOPs, and user training materials
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Platform
- Strong proficiency in:
- PowerApps (Canvas & Model-Driven Apps)
- Power Automate (Flows)
- Dataverse
- Experience integrating with SQL databases, SharePoint, and external APIs
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure environment (preferred)
- Knowledge of JavaScript, Power Fx, and JSON for advanced customization
- Experience working in government or highly regulated environments (preferred)
- Strong understanding of security, compliance, and data governance principles
- Must be green card holder or citizen, no sponsorship
Operational Requirements:
- On-site presence required daily (Monday–Friday, standard business hours)
- Ability to work within secure correctional facilities, including Rikers Island - possible occasional visits.
- Must comply with NYC DOC security clearance and background check requirements
- Reliable transportation required (public transit to our Bulova Corporate Center requires a bus, more than a mile to closest subway - parking available on site for no cost)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting public safety, corrections, or law enforcement systems
- Familiarity with NYC technology governance (e.g., OTI, Cyber Command, PPB rules)
- Experience replacing or augmenting legacy systems with low-code platforms
- Exposure to ServiceNow, Splunk, or enterprise integration platforms (e.g., MuleSoft)
Compensation:
- Competitive hourly rate based on experience (target range: $60-70/hour depending on seniority
- Opportunity for long-term engagement tied to modernization initiatives, with potential to conversion as a NYC FTE employee if satisfactory.
