Infrastructure Platform Intern - Summer 2026

General

 

The Infrastructure Platform Engineering & Automation Intern will be part of the Infrastructure Platform Engineering team in the Infrastructure Engineering and Architecture Tower, which engineers and automates platform technology.  This position is responsible for working closely with the Head of Platform Architecture, will participate in weekly intern cohort programming, and will collaborate with other interns on a group project.

 

Role Description:

 

As the Infrastructure Platform Engineering & Automation Intern, you will assist the Infrastructure Platform Engineering (IPE) team in the planning and execution of platform modernization, automation initiatives, and infrastructure operations. This internship will be hands-on. You will be involved in discussions and processes supporting enterprise-scale infrastructure decisions across our on-premises and cloud environments. A general understanding of Linux/Unix, containerization (OpenShift), and automation (Ansible) systems, preparation of documentation, spreadsheets, and presentations to enhance executive reporting capabilities are part of the role. Additional responsibilities include contributing to automation playbook development, supporting platform engineering projects, and assisting with documentation across tools such as Confluence and Jira.

 

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development, testing, and documentation of Ansible playbooks and automation workflows
  • Support the administration and monitoring of the Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) environment
  • Contribute to OpenShift (OCP) platform operations, including namespace management, resource review, and documentation
  • Participate in Linux/Unix infrastructure projects, including patching, configuration, and standards remediation efforts
  • Help maintain and improve internal documentation in Confluence, including runbooks, how-to guides, and architecture notes
  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code and GitLab pipeline work, including version control practices and CI/CD pipeline support
  • Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and cross-functional discussions involving platform and engineering stakeholders
  • Help evaluate and document tooling, platforms, and proposed solutions as part of ongoing Platform Engineering (PE) initiatives

 

Job Knowledge Requirements:

  • Familiarity with scripting/automation tools (PowerShell/Bash/Python/Ansible)
  • Introductory understanding of DevOps concepts and Git
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills
  • Attention to detail and eagerness to learn infrastructure platform engineering and automation

 

Qualifications:

  • Current students with an expected graduation date of May/June 2027
  • Preferred majors: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or related fields
  • Coursework or hands-on experience in cloud computing or programming preferred
  • Familiarity with Linux and Kubernetes
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
