Title:  Graduate Assistant for Pre-Enrollment/Special Programs

Office:  Pre-Enrollment/Special Programs, Office of Enrollment Management 

Report to: Jacqueline Grogan, Ed.D., Associate Provost for Enrollment Partnerships and Engagement

Description of Services Provided by the Department: The Office of Pre-Enrollment/Special Programs at St. John’s University is responsible for educational partner projects and initiatives designed to enhance access to undergraduate and graduate education at St. John’s University. The goal of these projects and initiatives is to showcase the University in various ways that encourage enrollment at the University.    Besides partnerships, this office oversees several programs with the goal of enrollment including the College Advantage Program, Early Admission Program, and High School Scholars Program.

Job Purpose:  Under the direction of the Associate Provost of Pre-Enrollment Programs, the Graduate Assistant will be responsible for supporting various aspects of multitude projects and initiatives within the Office of Pre-Enrollment/Special Programs in addition to supporting initiatives affiliated with larger unit of Enrollment Management. The position requires an array of skills, specifically: digital content creation, editing, digital design and event planning.

Job Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the administrative team, assist with the planning and execution of projects and initiatives for the Office of Pre-Enrollment/Special Programs. 
  • Support marketing efforts and promotional campaigns for the Office of Pre-Enrollment Programs through social media, specifically Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, with the use of Canva, Buffer and LinkTree platforms.
  • Create and curate content (video, photos, graphics) to support communication strategies.
  • Schedule and publish content for events and programs across various social media platforms.
  • Coordinate programs and initiatives to enhance prospective students’ experiences.
  • Attend recruitment events both in person and virtually.
  • Provide front desk coverage and assist with administrative tasks as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned. 

Equipment Used: 

  • Computers, Phone, photocopier, scanner, cameras, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled full-time in graduate program at St. John’s University, preferably in Communications, Advertising or Business.
  • Strong writing skills and basic knowledge of marketing/communications principles
  • Experience with graphic design and social media tools (Photoshop, Canva, etc.) preferred. 
  • Proficiency in posting diverse content across social media platforms.
  • Experience with Unibuddy and Slate preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of the St. John’s University academic schools and areas.
  • Ability to work at least 20 hours per week.
  • Flexible schedule: ability to assist with events if possible.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters in a professional manner.
  • Willingness to tackle new projects and take initiative.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and carry items over 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in an office.

Dates of the position:

  • The candidate will need to be available at least one week before and one week after the beginning/end of the semester for training.
  • Hours per week: 20 hours (excludes university holidays and weekends).
