Software Developer Intern

We are seeking a software developer intern to help expand our app's features and functionality, including integrating utility systems and advanced data analysis. This internship is for the 2024-2025 school year, with an August 2024 start date. Ideally, you’ll work 20 hours per week.

Meltek is a climate-tech startup that helps consumers and small businesses save money and reduce their carbon footprint by providing rewards for reducing energy use. Our mission is to enable all people to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and maximize their environmental impact through consumer-focused demand reduction programs. Meltek is supported by the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) and is authorized to work with consumers in California, New Jersey, and New York, with plans to expand across the United States and then globally.

 

Role – 

  • Contribute to the design and architecture of the next generation of Meltek’s infrastructure, to meet the high growth needs of our company and customers for years to come
  • Develop new features and integrations, enhancing user experience and expanding coverage
  • Handle complex backend components, from managing data flow and storage to optimizing the performance of our platform
  • Respond to user help requests and fix bugs quickly as they arise.
  • Interns are expected to use their existing skills and train in new skills while completing projects under the guidance of more senior personnel

 

Technical Qualifications

  • Prior work experience with REST APIs and webhooks
  • Familiarity with the full life cycle of software development, from design and implementation to testing and deployment

 

Personal Qualifications –

  • Have a problem-solving and ownership mentality: if you see a problem, you’ll pick it up and help fix it
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Clear, precise communications needed for fully remote work
  • Disciplined self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Understanding of product development and team leadership
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

 

Other Details

  • Time Commitment: 20 hours per week.
  • Duration: Initially 480 hours but with the potential to continue part-time or full-time post-internship
  • Location: Fully Remote
