St. John's University - Graduate Assistant for Mission Assessment

 St. John’s University’s Office of University Mission provides guidance in cultivating a mission-informed campus that supports campus members in faith and spiritual development, social justice scholarship, and community-based social action. The role of University Mission is to partner in creating a dynamic university environment shaped by its Catholic and Vincentian tradition.  As one of four core areas under the Mission sector, University Mission provides a platform for faculty and administrators to better incorporate the University’s mission and values when providing service to students and a become role models who perpetuate St. Vincent’s legacy, insipiring others to action. Moreover, as a University dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, University Mission supports DEI initiatives through creative and dynamic programming, providing spaces for interfaith dialogue and interdisciplinary scholarship met with informed service activities and reflection.  University Mission serves as an anchor for all Mission area assessment, providing support in assessing the impact of programming and community engagement on overall campus climate. The Graduate Assistant for Mission Assessment will provide support to measure the impact of  mission-related campus initiatives and community engagement programs on students, faculty, administrators, partner organizations, and host communities.

 

The Graduate Assistant for Mission Assessment will be able to utilize research and statistical analysis skills learned through their coursework to evaluate the impact of Mission programs on the campus community and external community partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

DATA GATHERING: Assist in the data collection and data cleaning process; assist with creating and updating resources related to data collection (e.g., evaluations and surveys); input data into various platforms (e.g., Qualtrics, GivePulse, Formstack).   

DATA ANALYSIS: Assist in the development of statistical models to evaluate the outcomes of Mission sector programs. 

REPORTING:  Run data reports and audit data platforms’ usage for the Mission sector; synthesize collected survey data and present in reports (e.g, written, graphics); assist in assessing campus-wide awareness, knowledge, and usage of the GivePulse platform.

RESEARCH & TRAINING: Support the campus community’s usage of GivePulse by facilitating trainings, workshops, and hosting Open Office Hours; assist in identifying relevent research articles and independent studies related to (but not limited to): retention and persistence, community engagement and impact on student success.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Majors with strong data analytics and/or social science including: School Psychology; Data Science; Business; Actuarial Science; Business Analytics; Applied Mathematics, Computing, and Machine Learning;  Computer Science   

Majors with strong data analytics and/or social science including: Psychology; Data Science; Business; Actuarial Science; Business Analytics; Applied Mathematics, Computing, and Machine Learning, Risk Management, Computer Science 

Candidate must have a strong interest in research related to poverty alleviation and community engagement, with an academic background in social research or data analysis (including data collection and data cleansing) preferred; familiarity with SPSS and Qualtrics strongly preferred; working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suites (Teams, Planner, Outlook, Word, Excel, Forms, etc.) and GivePulse preferred.
