Position Title: Database Administration (User Support and Developer), Emerging Talent Intern
Hourly Rate (Undergraduate): $19.00
Overview of Department:
Department of Subways- Infrastructure Capital Construction (ICC) is the NYC Transit construction group. Interns will provide support to field engineers/architects in the construction of structural projects throughout NYC Transit. Interns will support database development for reporting budgets, finances, and construction data while gaining hands-on experience with spreadsheets and databases, including report creation, data assessment, advanced graphing, and dataset embedding in Excel and Access. They will also assist with database administration, troubleshoot systems, support technology implementations, present their work, and engage with users to understand their needs. The intern will have an impact on improving operations.
Responsibilities:
- Learn and apply spreadsheet (MS Excel) and database (MS Access) skills for use in construction. Support in the following areas:
1. Learn the existing database and spreadsheets in use
2. optimize and improve existing database and spreadsheets
3. trouble shoot User issues encountered during use
4. develop new objects in Excel and Access - Understand how data is collected, managed, and assessed.
- Updating various databases and spreadsheets. Review and assess data for quality and accuracy
- Support in preparing and developing reports, graphs and charts and present your work to managers
- Learn basics in Transit operations and construction
- Interact with end Users
- Provide help desk support and trouble-shooting support
- General Offices duties (copying, printing, data entry, answering calls, etc)
- Opportunity to learn Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) -SAP based software.
- Additionally, the candidate will be expected to perform other ad hoc duties as required.
Projects:
- Assigned multiple databases and spreadsheets used in project management and construction.
1. Construction Projects
2. Financial Projects
3. Asset Condition Projects - Interns will support multiple projects in improving User experience and decision-making.
1. demonstration and presentation of these projects to end-user.
2. verifying and auditing User entries
3. Support in handling trouble-calls - Support in developing new spreadsheets and databases as requested by stakeholder
Required Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must with intermediate knowledge of MS Excel and MS Access.
- The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication (written and verbal) skills.
- Effective report writing
- The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
- The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
Required Education:
- Matriculated in undergraduate in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA
- Major(s) Preferred: Computer Science (Database), Mathematics, Data Science, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
