Position Title: Project Support, Emerging Talent Intern
Hourly Rate (Undergraduate): $19.00
Overview of Department:
The student will assist the Communications & Systems Engineering Division staff with technical work, including participation in the review of system designs, contract specifications, drawings, and testing procedures. MTA relies on robust CCTV security deployments, network communication systems, and capital contract reviews, which form the foundation of a secure, connected, and efficiently managed transit system. These efforts allow MTA to maintain high service reliability while enhancing public safety and operational effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in CCTV System Deployment & Field Surveys
- Support the planning and placement of security cameras by conducting site surveys, reviewing system designs, and ensuring compliance with MTA standards.
- Analyze Network Communication & System Interoperability
- Assist in evaluating fiber connections, system protocols, and data transmission reliability to ensure seamless integration across MTA communication systems.
- Review Capital Contract Specifications & Drawings
- Examine contract documents, technical drawings, and system requirements to verify compliance with design and performance standards.
- Conduct Testing & Analyze Results
- Participate in system performance tests, collect field data, and analyze test results to assess system functionality and reliability.
- Research & Evaluate New Technologies
- Assist in product research and market analysis to explore advancements in CCTV, networking, and transit security solutions.
- Support Documentation & Compliance Reporting
- Help prepare reports, technical documentation, and compliance summaries for internal teams and regulatory review.
Collaborate with Engineering & Field Teams - Work alongside engineers, contractors, and project managers to gain practical experience in transit technology deployments and contract management.
Assist in Project Coordination & Stakeholder Communication - Participate in project meetings, track progress, and help facilitate effective communication between departments, vendors, and MTA leadership
Projects:
- CCTV - Security Deployment, System design and standards, field surveys
- Network Communication - System protocols, Fiber Connections, system design review and overall interoperability
- Capital Contract Review - contract specification, drawings, testing procedures, analyzing test results, collecting and analyzing data, product research
Required Qualifications:
- Interest in pursuing a career in system technology or engineering.
- Candidate should be proficient in use of MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro (PDF).
- Familiarity with MS Access, Power PI, SharePoint and Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD or MicroStation) experience is desired but not required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Motivated learner and self-starter.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong organizational skills
Required Education:
- Matriculated in undergraduate in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA
- Major(s) Preferred: Computer Science, Areas of Technology, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
